One of the biggest benefits of CEREC crowns is that you can get a crown in a day. Traditional crowns take at least 2 appointments over a period of 1-2 weeks or longer.
CEREC uses a digital scanner, so there’s no need to use putty and trays to take physical molds of your teeth. Many patients find this process to be uncomfortable, so CEREC makes your visit easier.
There’s no need to wear a temporary resin crown between your appointments. Your tooth will be repaired and restored in just a single day.
To begin the process, Dr. Hawthorne will trim your tooth and scan it to capture a 3D image of your tooth and the surrounding area.
Next, your 3D scan is uploaded into a computer. Dr. Hawthorne will design your crown, then place a block of porcelain in the CEREC machine, which will carve it into a crown in just a few minutes.
Once your crown has been made, it will be checked to ensure it fits. Then, Dr. Hawthorne will bond it into place permanently, and you’ll be sent home. The entire process takes a single 1-2 hour appointment at our office.
CEREC crowns may be used to replace a large filling, or as an alternative to a filling for severely decayed teeth.
A CEREC crown is often recommended after root canal treatment, since this is the best way to cover up and protect the tooth, and the best option for restoring its shape and appearance.
Single-tooth dental implants use a special type of dental crown. This crown attaches directly to the implant to replace your natural tooth.
Crowns are sometimes used for cosmetic purposes if other treatments like veneers or dental bonding are not appropriate. For example, a crown may be a good option for a severely misshapen or stained tooth.
If you have a cavity, a damaged or chipped tooth, or a tooth infection, you may need a dental crown along with other dental treatments to restore your oral health. The best way to determine the right treatment for you is to come to West Vancouver Dental for a consultation in Vancouver, WA.
